Because of the fact that it has been the holiday season, and that we just moved, i have not had the chance to get online much. That also means that i have not been able to write my blog. But now its time for an update.
The last time i wrote, we were just about to move i believe. Well, since then, we have moved into our place in downtown Hanau. Its 70 square meters, 3 rooms plus a kitchen and a bathroom. This place actually has more square footage then our house in the states did. We spent the first couple of days getting some furniture from IKEA because that is when we had our rental car. The day before we moved in, we drove up to Sieber to get our TV that we left there. It was also a time for me to see my boyfriend, who i haven't seen in a month and for us to exchange xmas presents. it was so good to see him, even if it was only for 20 minutes. We got back around 3am to the hotel and went straight to sleep. The next morning we both had off from work so we headed straight over to the apartment to drop off the TV and move all of our stuff in. That day was hell because we had to carry all of our things up 4 flights of stairs. Yes, we live on the fourth floor, and there is no elevator. We also went out to buy beds and a few other items. We ended up only being able to buy 2 bed frames, 2 mattresses and 2 lamps the first day due to the fact that the IKEA here in Germany only takes cash and we were only able to get out 250 Euros due to the fact that there is a daily limit on how much we can take out from a cash machine. Carrying the beds and mattresses up four flights was not exactly what i would call a fun time. But hey, at least its some kind of work out right? Anyway, so we were up until about 2 in the morning just putting together the beds. We definitely got a good night sleep that night.
In the morning i had to go to work, but my mother had the day off, so she went around looking for more furniture and accessories. She came and picked me up when i got off and then we went over to the army post office so that i could get an American post box. I cant get paid unless i have a bank account and i cant do that with out and army post box. so after we got that all squared away we headed over to the bank to get an account for me and some more cash so that we could go back to IKEA and get the rest of the items we wanted. We ended up getting sheets and comforters for our beds and some shelving units so that we could not only have a shelf for the bathroom to store out stuff but also to make a cat tower so that the cats have somewhere to lay around all day while we are at work.
The next day i was able to get my laptop finally fixed. All that was wrong was a scratched installation disk. It only cost $45! In America it would have cost at least $200 just to look at it, but for $40 i got it looked at and fix. Talk about a great price. The only downer is that we don't have internet at our apartment so i don't really have any use for it except to type my blog... Oh well, at least i have it for when we do get the net.
Today was Christmas and we didn't have much to do. We ended up going to the army's mess hall for a Christmas brunch. We had turkey, stuffing and biscuits plus some great desert. All of it only cost 4 bucks a person for all we could eat. We then headed back to the apartment and went back to sleep. I had opened my present from my boyfriend, Rob, the night before. He gave me a bracelet. I love it to death. My mother got me some perfume also. I didn't have the chance to get her a gift because i didn't have any money. I know this is the poorest Christmas we will have. Next one we will both have had jobs for a while.
I do have my address now, and will send it out to my friends as soon as i can so that you all can write to me or whatever. it is a army post box so you wont have to pay international postage because its still considered an American addy. For those of my friends who are overseas here in Europe, i will send you my apartment address that way you wont have to pay international postage just to send to an army addy.
In the next few weeks my mother and i hope to get some carpeting into this apartment. Its so cold and also has a lot of echoing without it. We also hope to get some more furnishings as soon as the thrift store on post opens up. As of right now all we have are beds, a few lamps and a shelf. We don't even have a kitchen yet. It wont arrive til the middle of January.
For new years, i am going up to spend it with my boyfriend and his family. It will be nice to spend some quality time with him and have his family get to know me better. It will def. be better than last years new years, which was spent at home, listening to a police scanner. Not that it wasn't nice, but i have never really been celebrating new years until now.
Hopefully in the next week we will also get a land line put in which means a new German number that my friends can call for cheaper than having to call my handy. It also means that i will have access to the net hopefully 24/7. YEAH!!!! I miss the net so much. That means that i will be able to chat online to my friends in the states when they are up cause i will have internet access during their daylight hours. It also means that i will be able to update my blog a lot more. Hopefully daily. That will be nice because i haven't been able to do that since i was in Italy. And that was three months ago. Well i better be off now. Its about 130am and we have to be up early because someone is coming to work on the house around 9 am. Talk about early. But hopefully i will be able to get on the net on base and do a bit of surfing before i have to go to work.
Happy Holidays and New Years to all of you.
