I'm gonna start first by talking about our trip to Gottingen. Gottingen can be compared to Sieber like this: Think of a very small town like Willmar, Minnesota, and then compare it to Roseville, Minnesota. Sieber has nothing to offer, at all. Gottingen however is a big shopping area. Tons of stores. We just got money in and decided it was time to get some clothes that not only fit, but protected us from the weather.
We started out at about 10am, got a ride to town, and bought or tickets for the train. We got on figuring we would be in Gottingen by 1045, 11am at the latest. This shows you our great knowledge of German trains. In stead of going straight to Gottingen, even though we were going in the right direction, we ended up in Osterode. Then we had to go all the way back to the station past ours, and then we were heading for Gottingen. We didn't get there til about noon.
Ok, so it was a nice scenic train ride, no bother. It was nice to get out of the pension. We find out that the bus station is right outside the train station, so after getting a bite to eat, we head out to see what bus to take. We were looking for the one that said "Zentrum" or center, which is where all the shops are. The problem is, there are 4 buses that say that. Ok, so we pick the one that is arriving the soonest, and knowing that the Zentrum isn't that far away, jump on the bus. FYI: the bus tickets are always cheaper in bigger cities. Go figure right. So we get on the bus and enjoy the ride. The problem is, we have never taken a bus into town before and we have no idea what stop to get off at. The bus tell you what stop is next, BUT, it never said Zentrum, even though we knew we were in the city. But we stay on, figuring it will eventual say Zentrum......20 minutes later, we notice that we are no longer in a city, but in the country side, and no where near the city. Just our luck! Thank heavens the bus driver spoke a bit of English and told us that we had no doubt missed our stop and would tell us when we got there...
So we finally get to the city and do a bit of shopping. YEAH!! We both get jackets, some shirts, and a pair of jeans for each of us. I'm sure we bought more, but i cant think of what.
One good thing about this town is that they have a big center with Christmas festivities. Everyone just mulling around drinking mulled cider, hot cocoa spiked with alky and many other nice alcoholic drinks to warm everyone up. Now we understand why everyone is wearing considerably lighter clothes than us. The y are all getting nipped up. LOL. Mom gets a mulled drink that she says takes ok at first but gets better the more you drink. LOL. And i get a hot chocolate with coconut rum. Yummy!!! It warmed me right up. We also indulged and bought a bunch of fresh candied nuts. WOW! Talk about a real xmas feeling. This is nothing like in the states. This is MUCH better, I am actually getting in to the xmas spirit for once.
So after a hard day of shopping, we hop on to a bus, yes we got off at the correct stop! We got to the train station and hoped on our train back to town.
Once again, doing things the Ortega way, we missed our stop. Again, lucky for us there was a young lady who spoke English, told us what stop to get off on, and what train to take back to our stop. Finally we arrive at our city and call a taxi for a ride. We spend some time on the internet because mark, the owner of the pension we live at doesn't want us to use the internet too much.
This of course it when it starts to snow, and doesn't stop. Now it might sound silly that the snow is different in Germany than it is in the states, buts its true. The car was sliding everywhere on just a few inches of snow, and the next day, roads were blocked and people who made reservations couldn't get thru until night fall.
Ok, so now i delve into the new problem.
As you know from the previous posts, my boyfriends family is way/is trying to buy the pension. Over much arguing, a deal gets made. But here is the pisser. Something happened, which i will only go into detail with my friends who email me and want to know, and now we have to be out of the house before they arrive or the deal is off. They come the 5th, which is in 2/3 days. Doesn't give us much time, and since we spent all of our money thinking we would be living in the pension, we now have to find a place and rent a car and get jobs soon. We are leaving for the city of Wiesbaden on Monday morning and at the moment we don't have a place to rent or a car. We are working on the car thing, that should be no problem and we should hopefully be able to stay in a hotel for a few til we find a place to live. We are spending all the rest of our money on internet so that we can apply for jobs. (Mark doesn't want us to use his net to much, yet he spends 8 hours talking to someone online that he could call on the phone and save money) so we are resorting to spending more money.
That brings us up to the current state of life. Am i stressed?? Of Course. Am i sick to my stomach over what has happened? Of course but not as much as a few days ago. Will we make it thru? Of course, i have no doubt about that. We have had to do this before, i know we can make it.
